Cosmetic facial acupuncture

Completely natural facial treatment

Cosmetic acupuncture is a completely natural facial treatment. It has grown immensely in popularity as a way to help with skin rejuvenation and as a means to deal with any specific skin issues such as fine lines and tired looking skin areas.

However it’s not just a cosmetic treatment. Facial acupuncture can also improve your overall wellness, so you may also experience less stress as well as better mood, sleep, and digestion. Compared to other cosmetic treatments such as botox or chemical peels, this is a natural alternative that stimulates your body’s own healing process.

Fiona trained in cosmetic facial acupuncture with Jong Baik in 2012. Since then she has used it successfully on patients who had concerns about signs of ageing, such as fine lines (on the forehead, around the eyes and/or around the mouth) and sagging muscles (cheeks and under the chin).

How does it work?

Facial acupuncture needles increase local circulation and cause micro / unseen injuries, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin to make skin look more youthful and firm. With ongoing treatment sessions, you can often see a reduction in fine lines, more firmness, and a smoother texture. It can also be helpful to reduce puffiness, combat acne, and lighten under-eye dark circles and can be described as an “acupuncture facelift“.

What can cosmetic facial acupuncture help with?

  • Improve blood circulation and nourishment to the skin.
  • Improve hydration of skin, making the face look refreshed.
  • Increase cellular regeneration & collagen formation for a renewed complexion and skin elasticity.
  • Rejuvenates skin tone, restoring a lustrous glow to the face.
  • Reduces crow’s feet, minimizes fine lines, reduces depth of expression lines.
  • Firm and uplift sagging skin.
  • Clear dark circles around the eyes, puffiness and other signs of tiredness.
  • As it helps reduce inflammation and improve blood flow it can be helpful for blemishes , congested skin, roseacea, facial tics and Bell’s palsy.

What should you expect during a treatment?

On the initial consultation, a thorough medical history is taken which includes what your specific facial skin conditions or needs are followed by a discussion of a suitable treatment plan.

Facial cosmetic acupuncture sessions done by Fiona involve a 15- 20 minute facial massage – a specialized Chinese medicine massage technique called gua sha that uses tools with oil to massage the face . This lifts the muscles and brings better blood flow to the face and skin, promoting a quicker overall result and is deeply relaxing.

After the gua sha massage very ultra fine needles are placed in specific points in the face as well as micro needles placed in the main lines on the face.

The process is typically painless with some people feeling an occasional slight pinch on insertion or numbness / tingling in the area. The needles remain in the skin for 25- 30 minutes. After this the needles are removed gently and discarded and a moisturizer applied. Rarely there may be a very small bruise which should last only a few days.

The initial consultation lasts for one hour and subsequent sessions are 45 minutes.

How many treatments are recommended?

For the best results it is recommended to have a few treatments close together in time - i.e. twice a week or weekly - at first and then to space them out. The treatment plan for most people is to have 4 treatments over two weeks and then regular weekly treatments for 4 weeks. However if this is not possible an alternative treatment strategy can be discussed at the initial consultation.
